Which CPR Class is Right for Me?

There are instances in which you are required to take CPR classes. However, there are different types of classes to choose from. You can get BLS, CPR and first aid classes from the American Heart Association and American Safety & Health here at Start CPR 1st in Phoenix.

Sometimes it may be difficult to figure out which training is required for your job. Do not fear we are here to help clear up any common misconceptions. The info-graphic below shows the most common CPR training courses. After a brief explanation of each, you can see which jobs require what course. Some training standards and requirements vary state by state, we are using national recommendations as guidelines.

First Aid – this basic training covers First Aid Basics like Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies and Environmental Emergencies. Some professions that use First Aid: nursing assistants, construction crew leaders, child care providers, adult family home aids, caregivers, teachers, fitness trainers and security personnel.

CPR and AED (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) – used to treat cardiac arrest victims until help arrives. The AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is the machine used to “shock” the heart. Some people that use CPR: parents, security guards, teachers, fitness trainers, flight attendants, home health care, construction crew and laypeople.

BLS (Basic Life Support) – BLS is CPR for Healthcare Providers. This class covers CPR, AED and choking for all ages and as well as 2 rescuer CPR. Professions that use BLS: doctors, nurses, firefighters, dentists, EMT technicians, healthcare professionals, physical therapists and other medical workers.
